The Democratic Women’s Club of St. Lucie County provides a forum for discussing public matters, supports qualified candidates for public office, and encourages qualified Democratic women to seek elected office. DWC meetings are held on the 4th Saturday of each month, except for November, December, and July..
"How can one person make a difference?"
- Educate yourself on the issues and then educate others
- Pay close attention to local races - local officials are usually accessible and they have a lot of power over the quality of life in your community
- Get involved with organizations that work on the issues you care about - the environment, health, women's rights, education - then support their legislative agenda by making phone calls, sending emails, or writing letters.
- VOTE - Vote in every election! Local races and party primaries are often decided by a small number of people - make sure you're one of them!
"Where can I learn about issues important to me?"
There are so many sources of information today that it can be overwhelming, but here are a few that we use at the Democratic Women's Club:
St. Lucie County Supervisor of Elections - Check your registration status, learn where, when, and how to vote, learn about local and state candidates, learn how candidates get and use their contributions, and find out what it takes to become a candidate yourself.
The Florida House of Representatives and the Florida Senate - Find out who represents you at the state level, track bills through the legislative process, and find out how your representatives voted on issues you care about.
St. Lucie County Democrats - local Democrats
The Children's Movement of Florida believes that children be Florida's No. 1 priority.
Health News Florida - Florida ranks pretty low (often last) on a number of health indicators. Find out why. If you're a real data geek like me go to Florida Charts and get all the stats you ever wanted!
Florida Democatric Party - Organizing to elect Democrats in Florida
Organizing for America - Organizing to re-elect President Obama in 2012
Democratic Women's Club of Florida - Supporting women in the political process
This is only a small list of all the great information available on the internet (often hidden by the huge amount of really dumb misinformation). Recommend more!
The Democratic Women's Club of St. Lucie County is chartered by the Democratic Women's Club of Florida (DWCF), a statewide group of approximately 2000 politically active women (and men - we don't discriminate!) We are also part of DWCF Region VIII with Martin and Highlands Counties.
